UNPRECEDENTED PROTEST

Yesterday thousands of people came together to offer an unprecedented example of mass protest and civil disobedience for the climate.

More than 2500 activists, many willing to risk arrest, successfully blockaded all five entrances to the Capitol Power Plant for more than four hours.

As impressive as that is, this action wasn’t just about this one coal-fired powerplant. The scale and the commitment of the participants was the biggest example yet of the kind of public support necessary to solve the climate crisis.

We aren’t going to stop global warming by just changing lightbulbs and driving hybrid cars. The only real solution is to come together and demand unprecedented change through unprecedented action.

And that’s exactly what happened yesterday.

All Gates Now Occupied

Every gate at the Capitol Coal Plant has now been occupied. Strong contingents have broken off from the central march in order to block access to this symbolic plant.

Three out of Five Gates Now Occupied at the Capitol Climate Action

Courageous activists have now occupied three of five gates at the Capitol Power Plant. The march of thousands is continuing to circle the plant. The situation is peaceful, non-violent, and of course inspiring.

The crowd, which has got to be at least 2000 people, is preparing to walk down to the coal plant. I just walked by the plant and there are police everywhere. We’re about to start posting photo and video in a few minutes.
